Spring 1956 - The Happy Couple
or, as Bob suggests the caption read:
"Yes, There IS a cure for Anorexia"
or
"My, didn't Olna have a high forehead like Joan Crawford?"
Please
take a look through our photos...you can click the image for

March
13th - Seattle, WA
We've Arrived! Olna at SeaTac Airport.
OK, this isn't Bob and Olna...But, hey, it's a thought!
The Seattle Space Needle
Bob and Olna on the Monorail to the Space Needle
Bob and Melayne in the Space Needle Observatory Deck
Now those are really "Big Ass Grapes"... Bob
asked, "Did you see the Big Ass Strawberries?"
Pepper Swags...to be sent home for the family
Melayne atop the Observatory Deck
Olna and Melayne in Seattle
Matthew and Olna at Pike Place Market
Melayne and Matt

$5.00!!! How much would this be at HEB?

March
14th - Victoria, BC
Inside the Victoria Clipper en route from Seattle to Victoria...
We left Seattle bright and early! Probably got an email from
us soon after this picture was taken.
Mamie on the Victoria Clipper! For an update on "Where's
Waldo", I mean "Where's Bob", check his
page!
Mom ventures to the railing of the deck. The Parliment
Building in the background...the Empress Hotel just above
Mom's head, I believe!
Matthew, Steve and Olna kicking back in the Living Room
The Parliament Building behind Olna, Steve and Melayne
at dusk. Also known as the "Matt, hurry up and take
the picture, or we're throwing you off the deck" picture!
Brrrrr, it was cold as the sun went down...somehow, a temperature
in Celcius always sounds colder!
The Parliament Building at Night, from our deck.
Melayne relaxes after a long day! Sorry, you can't see
her new tennis shoes in this picture, but rest-assured, she's
probably wearing them!
Floatplanes (just under our window) take off and land
all afternoon! Around 5PM, we were afraid someone was reinacting
Pearl Harbor, there were so many float planes coming and going!
Olna shows the "Grande Staircase" in our room.
We're getting a real workout, trying to get upstairs to take
naps, and then coming back down for Ketchup-flavored Potato
Chips (believe me, this Canadian junk food is the BEST!)
Olna trying to hide in the dining room and Matt too happy
to sprawl out in the living room!
Melayne in the "office" nook. Can someone remind
us again -- What Did we do before computers and the internet???
Three modes of transportation right below our sundeck:
Sailboat, Whale Watching Boat and Float Plane! Which should
we choose?
March
15th - Victoria, BC
Steve and Melayne went golfing at Olympic View Golf Club.
Steve said hit putting wasn't up to par (pun intended), but
Melayne reported he did well...and she enjoyed looking for
golf balls and taking pictures.
Huge Bolder dwarfs Steve on this fairway. It was like
playing golf at a ski area...the holes had been cut right
in the middle of a forest. Unbelieveable scenery, too!
A water hazard (I'll Say!) at Olympic View Golf Club.
Beautiful afternoon, so we took a short walk and snapped
this photo of our room. Our deck, living room, kitchen,
dining room and media room are on the 5th floor of rooms
from the bottom. Our bedrooms are on the 6th floor.
A big sailboat took several trips full of Jr. High/High
School aged kids out to the Pacific. What a great field trip,
huh?
Melayne in the flowers with a whale in front of our hotel.
Heading to Butchart Gardens on Thursday, but these flowers
were just too pretty to pass up!
March
16th - Victoria, BC
Steve checks out the fresh baked breads at the Victoria
Regent's Continental Breakfast...a good "freebie"
way to start the day! Especially the rainy, dreary morning
that we had today. Once the rain left, the winds arrived from
the North...at about (a-boot, as pronounced in Canada) 40
to 45 knots! Brrrrrrrrrrrr...
Olna and Matt watch the rain spatter the window at the Breakfast
cafe.
Beautiful flowering trees everywhere... After the winds
hit, it looked like it had snowed throughout the city, as
the flower petals were everywhere!
White flowers (as in the first picture) and various shades
of pink and purple (above) are represented.
The "houseboat" part of town. Not quite as
glamorous as staying in the "high rent district"
(as our Hertz rep. referred to the harbour area), but very
charming none-the-less.
A dreary morning ended with a beautiful rainbow, just
above the Big Blue Drawbridge, at the entrance to the Gorge
Waterway. This picture is from our sundeck (the drizzle deck
this morning!)
Lots of sailboats in Ross Bay, past Clover Point (and
"Mile Zero" of the Trans-Canada Highway)
A family trip around Victoria took us along the Strait
of Juan de Fuca, where Killer Whales roam in the summer months,
but only this orca was spotted today!
Fish & Chips, Fish & Chips, I've got to get me
some Fish & Chips... OK, I know that's supposed to be
"Kibble & Bits", but we crave the Fish as much
as Greta, Cleo and Alika crave the Kibble! Melayne and Olna
show the best way to eat it...plop a good dollop of Tarter
Sauce on the hot, crunchy fish, douse with Malt Vinegar...Salt
to taste...and Crunch Away!!!
The groundhog came out of his hole...The Prince of Victoria
was finally "de-throned"..."Heeeerrre's Bobby"...However
you'd like to say it, we were rejoined by Dr. Bob today! He
helped us find our way to the Fish & Chips after a tour
around Victoria! Be sure to check today's Fiction
and Fact: Bob's Almanac for details!
Wimps! We actually had to light the fireplaces tonight
(this one is in the living room...the other was in the media
room). Notice Matt's crimped neck? Poor thing...he couldn't
turn his head to the left all day...leading Melayne to say,
"Look at that pretty house on the left, look at
the ship on the left, look at that restaurant on
the left, oh my goodness, what is that to the left?..."
She's evil, I tell you!
We set our watches by the arrival of the Victoria Clipper
each day.
March
17th - Victoria, BC
A contrast in transportation... The large car ferry kicks
up a wake for the small, harbour ferry.
The Big Blue Draw Bridge by our hotel room.
One for Greta.
The Parliament Building, in all its glory.
Olna, Matt and Steve went to the BC Museum of Natural
History. Bob went, too, and learned lots by sitting in the
car.
A trip to Rogers Chocolates led to big smiles! Established
in 1885, the chocolate factory was great!
This bear tries to keep Melayne from reaching for her
Visa...AGAIN!
Matthew and Steve enjoying the Sales.
Queen Victoria peers over Melayne's shoulder at the Parliament
Building.
The Empress...and The Empress Hotel, along with Flags
of Canada and British Columbia.
Off to Butchart Gardens.
Although not quite the bloomin' season for Butchart, there
was plenty to see!
Olna loved the landscaping.
Beautiful fountains were found all around the Gardens.
We could only imagine what the Gardens looked like in
full bloom.
Gorgeous hanging baskets and thousands of rose bushes...ready
for Spring.
